Through this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA), the National Cancer Institute (NCI) solicits applications from institutions/organizations to participate as the Coordinating Center for the HIV/Cervical Cancer Prevention 'CASCADE' Clinical Trials Network. The ‘CASCADE’ Network will conduct pragmatic clinical trials evaluating the effectiveness of clinically proven interventions to overcome barriers and reduce failures in the cervical cancer screening, management, and precancer treatment cascade for women living with HIV. ‘CASCADE’ clinical trials will be conducted in intended-use environments in resource-constrained settings in low- and middle-income countries and in regions with health disparities in the United States, and will have four major scientific focus areas: increasing screening uptake, improving management of screen positives, facilitating precancer treatment access, and optimizing precancer treatments for cervical cancer prevention in women living with HIV. Evidence from these trials is expected to inform clinical practice guidelines and improve the implementation of cervical cancer prevention and control programs globally.

NCI Research Specialist (Clinician Scientist) Award (R50 Clinical Trial Not Allowed)

Through this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA), the National Cancer Institute (NCI) invites applications for the Research Specialist Award in any area of NCI-funded clinical cancer research. This FOA is specifically for clinician scientists to continue to participate in the NCI clinical trials networks through leadership in the 1) development of national clinical trials, 2) implementation of NCI clinical trials in their institutions, and 3) national service to the NCI clinical trials networks through participation in the scientific review committees, monitoring committees, and other activities, but not serve as principal investigators of research project grants. These clinician scientists are vital to sustaining the NCI-funded clinical trials enterprise. The Research Specialist Award is intended to provide stable support for clinician scientists at their institutions for significant leadership and exceptional participation in the NCI-sponsored clinical trials networks that conduct cancer treatment, prevention and control, and care delivery clinical trials. NCI-sponsored clinical trials networks include but are not limited to the National Clinical Trials Network (NCTN), the NCI Community Oncology Research Program (NCORP), the Experimental Therapeutics Clinical Trials Network (ETCTN), and the Cancer Prevention Clinical Trials Network (CP-CTNet).

NCI Research Specialist (Core-based Scientist) Award (R50 Clinical Trial Not Allowed)

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) invites grant applications for the Research Specialist Award (R50) in any area of NCI-funded cancer research. This FOA is specifically for core/shared resource/central scientific support scientists. The Research Specialist Award is designed to encourage the development of stable research career opportunities for exceptional scientists who want to continue to pursue research within the context of an existing NCI-funded basic, translational, clinical, or population science cancer research program, but not serve as independent investigators. These scientists, such as researchers within a core/shared resource/central scientific support, are vital to sustaining the biomedical research enterprise. The Research Specialist Award is intended to provide salary support and sufficient autonomy so that individuals are not solely dependent on NCI grants held by others for career continuity.

NCI Research Specialist (Laboratory-based Scientist) Award (R50 Clinical Trial Not Allowed)

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) invites grant applications for the Research Specialist Award (R50) in any area of NCI-funded cancer research. This FOA is specifically for laboratory-based scientists. The Research Specialist Award is designed to encourage the development of stable research career opportunities for exceptional scientists who want to continue to pursue research within the context of an existing NCI-funded basic, translational, clinical, or population science cancer research program, but not serve as independent investigators. These non-tenure track scientists, such as researchers within a research program, are vital to sustaining the biomedical research enterprise. It is anticipated that only exceptional scientists who want to pursue research within the context of an existing NCI-funded cancer research program, but not serve as independent investigators, will be competitive for this award.

Cancer Prevention-Interception Targeted Agent Discovery Program (CAP-IT) Data and Resource Coordination Center (CAP-IT DRCC) (U24 Clinical Trial Not Allowed)

The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to solicit Applications for the Cancer Prevention-Interception Targeted Agent Discovery Program (CAP-IT) Data and Resource Coordination Center (CAP-IT DRCC) (U24). The overall goal of this FOA and the companion FOA (U54 CAP-IT Specialized Centers, RFA-CA-21-038) is to establish an agile and effective network infrastructure to undertake collaborative research focusing on precision cancer prevention and interception, with the overarching goal of discovering molecularly or immunologically targeted agents designed to prevent or intercept the oncogenic process in higher-risk populations. The CAP-IT network will be formed by up to three U54 Specialized Centers (RFA-CA-21-038) and one U24 CAP-IT DRCC (this FOA). The CAP-IT DRCC will function as the Program’s centralized data management and network activity coordination center.

Notice of Special Interest: National Cancer Institute Administrative Supplement Opportunity for Strategies to Optimize Recruitment and Retention of Cancer Prevention and Symptom Management Clinical Trial Participants

The NCI is providing this opportunity for support of implementation and evaluation of promising clinical trial recruitment and retention strategies for cancer prevention, cancer control, and care delivery clinical trials, as well as quality-of-life studies embedded within treatment and imaging studies. The research solicited through this opportunity includes but is not limited to strategies that are directed toward NIH-designated U.S. health disparity populations, which include Blacks/African Americans, Hispanics/Latinos, American Indians/Alaska Natives, Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians and other Pacific Islanders, socioeconomically disadvantaged populations, underserved rural populations, and sexual and gender minorities as well as older adult populations. Research proposed for supplemental funding may include one or more strategies and may be applied to one or more studies or sites. Applications should include a prospective plan to evaluate the performance of the proposal as well as the effectiveness of the proposed strategy. Effectiveness of the strategy may include comparison with another strategy, participant surveys, staff satisfaction surveys or achievement of pre-specified recruitment and retention milestones.

Research Supplements to Promote Diversity in Health-Related Research (Admin Supp - Clinical Trial Not Allowed)

The NIH currently provides multiple opportunities to develop research careers and enhance participation for individuals from diverse backgrounds, including those from groups demonstrated to be underrepresented in the biomedical, behavioral, clinical and social sciences. Nevertheless, reports from the National Science Foundation and others provide strong evidence that underrepresentation remains an important problem that the entire research enterprise must actively address. This administrative supplement is designed to provide support for research experiences for individuals from diverse backgrounds throughout the continuum from high school to the faculty level.
